Event Description:
The Young Swedish Singers, a 43 member gospel singing group from Hasselholm, Skane, Sweden, will appear in concert at St. John’s Lutheran Church at 7:00 pm on June 21, 2016. The group’s tour includes stops in Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio from June 16-July 3, 2016,
This youth choir, founded by Director Birgitta Roslund in 1991, comes from a very musical Lutheran church in the far south of Sweden. Choir members range in age from teenagers to young adults. This is their sixth tour in the past fourteen years.
The Young Swedish Singers’ concert, sung mostly in English, will include gospel, hymns, and Swedish folk music. The choir will make sixteen church appearances and participate in two Swedish festivals. Along the way, the choir members will be hosted by approximately 300 families who enjoy the cultural exchange.
Another important part of the tour is enjoying interesting local sights along the way, including some shopping opportunities. Choir members have raised funds to cover both their airfare to the U.S. and the coach bus transportation. Sales of their two CD’s helps to defer those costs. All free will offering income received during the tour will benefit Shepherd’s Canyon Retreat (www.sheperdscanyonretreat.org), a non-profit ministry providing counseling retreats for clergy and their spouses.
The entire community of Hannibal and the surrounding area is invited to enjoy the grace of our Lord through the musical talent of the Young Swedish Singers on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at 7:00 pm at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1201 Lyon St., Hannibal MO 63401. No admission cost but a free will donation will be appreciated.
