Name: Night Hike through Sodalis Nature Preserve
Date: March 27, 2026
Time: 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM CDT
Event Description:
This is the first night hike of the season. We’ll see if the bats have started to emerge from their winter hibernation in the Lime Kiln Mine. They’re super hungry this time of year having used up their body fat from the fall to survive during the winter. If it’s a warm night with insects around then we might see some bats. Remember, while there’s more than 220,000 bats in the mine, they don’t all come out at once and there’s 34 gated openings plus smaller ones the bats can enter and exit from! We’re lucky if we see 30-100 bats. The full program is about 2 hours and covers a 2-mile paved loop with a steep incline. Participants have the option to return sooner as desired. Please register as space is limited.
