Event Description:
November has arrived in Hannibal and offers nature lovers much to anticipate. Nature programs allow the opportunity to appreciate the beauty of fall and the cycle of life. Upcoming nature programs offered by Hannibal Parks & Recreation are free due to the generous sponsorship of Hannibal BASF. • Mushroom Scavenger Hunt in Riverview Park, 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8. Spring is the time for morels but autumn rains bring out a variety of mushrooms many of which are edible like Hen of the Woods. Searching for mushrooms is always a sort of scavenger hunt. Meet at the parking lot at the entrance of Riverview Park and we’ll see what we can find in the woods of Riverview Park as we explore the new Eagle Scout trail. I Like Lichen and Moss Family Nature program 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 16 at Sodalis Nature Preserve. Lichen is a unique organism given that it’s both green plant and fungi. Moss, too, is unique among plants. Both grow on top of rocks, roots, tree bar, and other surfaces to colonize and get the few nutrients they need to survive. We’ll search for both at the Sodalis Nature Preserve and see what we can learn about them. These programs are led by Hannibal Parks & Recreation’s Nature Interpreter Gale Rublee and members of the Mississippi Hills Missouri Master Naturalist chapter.
