The Mark Twain Boyhood Home & Museum presents this special preview screening of Holbrook/Twain: An American Odyssey. The feature documentary of Emmy and Tony Award winning actor Hal Holbrook and his sixty years of performing Mark Twain in his one-man show entitled, "Mark Twain Tonight!".
Directed by Scott Teems and Produced by Laura D. Smith, Holbrook/Twain: An American Odyssey combines backstage material of Holbrook preparing for performances with candid and telling interviews with Holbrook about his life on the road and feature interviews with such notable actors/actresses as Sean Penn, Martin Sheen, Emile Hirsch and Tony -winning Cherry Jones.
Scheduled for public release June of 2015, the film is shot in classic black-and-white and takes audiences through beautiful images of Holbrook's performances and backstage to Elmira, New York and even to Sam's hometown, Hannibal, Missouri.
Producer Laura D. Smith, Los Angeles, California, will be on hand to introduce the film and answer questions following the screening. Smith is a noted producer and her work on the critically-acclaimed feature That Evening Sun, written and directed by Scott Teems, received the Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature and Special Jury Prize for Best Ensemble Cast at its SXSW premiere. That Evening Sun has won over a dozen awards including two Film Independent Spirit Award nominations, it was released in 2009. She is currently working on several other projects including The Quarry, written and to be directed by Teems; And Then I Go, written and to be directed by Brett Haley (The New Year) with executive producer John Hillcoat; It Follows, a horror script written and to be directed by David Robert Mitchell (Myth of the American Sleepover), and If You Close Your Eyes, written and to be directed by Claudia Sparrow, who won a Student Emmy Award for her short film "El Americano".
Smith will host a workshop on Friday, October 24th for students of Hannibal-LaGrange University over film production and editing.
