Event Description:
Hannibal-LaGrange University’s Theatre Department will present City Mouse, Country Mouse by Brian D. Taylor on Friday, September 26, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. in The Loft, located inside the L.A. Foster Student Center on the HLGU campus. Admission is free and open to the public. This comedic tale offers a fresh spin on the classic fable of two cousins from opposite worlds. When country mouse Sam invites his sophisticated city cousin Alex for a visit, Alex finds himself bewildered by rural life without Wi-Fi or indoor plumbing. Though he quickly retreats back to the city, guilt convinces him to return the favor and welcome Sam into the bustling urban scene. What follows is a series of hilarious misadventures—including a memorable sushi restaurant fiasco—as both cousins struggle with feeling out of place. Ultimately, the story reminds audiences that neither city nor country is truly “better,” but that family and understanding bridge even the widest gaps. The production is student-directed by Rhett Simpson, a senior theatre major at HLGU, who is presenting the play as part of his senior project.
